Summary

The site was once covered by a building housing a canninng factory. There was a boiler room located in the building. Contaminated soil and grounwater was treated by injecting Calcium Polysulfate throughout the source areas under the building, which reduces hexavalent chromium into the less toxic and less mobile form of trivalent chromium. Quarterly sampling following the injection treatment demonstrated the effectiveness of the injections and showed that the plume is now stable/reducing and the contaminant source is no longer contributing to the plume. The site has since received an NFA Certificate and achieved a closed status. In May 1980 the building was destroyed in a fire. There were four chrome tanks in the building during the fire. In September 1997, Seabee contractors began collecting groundwater samples from four monitoring wells (MW-6, MW-7, MW-9 and MW-11) onsite on a quarterly basis. The remaining wells onsite are tested annnually. The samples are tested for hexavalent chromium. There are sixteen monitoring wells onsite. they are located along the south, east, west, and northeast perimeters of the building with the exception of one well located about 200 feet north of the building. The groundwater flow appears to be to the southeast. This is based on groundwater measurements taken from four monitoring wells onsite. Currently, there are twelve chrome process tanks located at the site. The tanks are located in a block pit which has a liner. The pit also has a sealer
