10/14/2014 From: Gastineau, Janet [DNR] Sent: Tuesday, October 14, 2014 6:58 AM To: madridwater@windstream.net Subject: chlorine residual It was recently brought to my attention that there is a significant difference between the disinfectant residuals reported by Thayer and Uitermark when they collect the monthly bacterial samples. I ran some numbers going back to January 2013 and Uitermark’s average free available chlorine residual reported is 1.05 mg/L, but Thayer’s is 1.63 mg/L. From the looks of the numbers, Thayer may be using the high range on his colorimeter and Uitermark the low range when they measure. Another reason may be the length of time each collector lets it run. Whatever the cause, I suggest you speak with them or the lab or shadow each during collection to be sure both chlorine residuals are being measured and reported accurately. JANET GASTINEAU
