2/25/2014 1220 hrs: I contacted Kim Kluesner to inform her that I had just spoken with Darwin Peterson. I explained that I had explained, in general, the frozen/snow-covered ground application regulations, but I was concerned whether Darwin fully understood them; particularly the MMP and P-Index components. I stated that if she hadn't spoken to the Peterson's since she and I talked earlier this morning, I would recommend she do so soon; unless her and John (Kluesner) were no longer going to be involved in this matter. John Kluener spoke, via speaker phone, and explained that he had relayed my information to Ron Peterson and had very strongly stressed that they find a place to transfer manure, rather than land apply it. John also explained that his application crew had shown-up at the Peterson facility last fall to pump the pits and Ron Peterson had sent them away, saying he would pump the pits himself. John stated that his crews were able to apply manure for another three weeks after that, before they got froze-out; so they certainly could have pumped the Peterson pits completely out if they hadn't been sent away. In other words, it was John's opinion that there was no reason the pits should be full at this time. He further stated that he had explained all the potential issues and liabilities associated with surface-applying liquid manure in these conditions. Our conversation was left at the point that if the Peterson's want to go ahead with land-application and involve John and Kim, the Kluesners will contact me. TRENT LAMBERT
