Solid waste generated in Hamilton County for land disposal should go to the Hamilton County Transfer Station and then to the North Central Iowa Regional Solid Waste Agency (NCIRSWA) Landfill in Fort Dodge. If a compelling case can be made that it is impractical to use the Transfer Station, the Hamilton County Solid Waste Agency has, in the past and under certain circumstances, waived the requirement that it go through their Transfer Station and could be direct hauled to NCIRSWA. You should contact Terry Klaver (515 539-4420) at the Transfer Station to discuss this, if desired. Regardless of whether a direct haul to NCIRSWA or through the Hamilton County Transfer Station, you should contact Cindy Turkle at the NCIRSWA (515 971-4089) to discuss the details of the waste stream and learn the specific waste characterization requirements they have. Landfills have the discretion to refuse certain waste streams. The legal basis for the Iowa geographic restrictions on where the solid waste must go for land disposal is provided here. http://www.iowadnr.gov/portals/idnr/uploads/waste/wasteflowfactsheet.pdf?amp;tabid=824 If you choose to send the waste out-of-state, the Iowa Planning Area restrictions do not apply, although annual tonnages should still be reported to the Hamilton County Solid Waste Agency.
