Summary
The site is a former steel foundry which initially manufactured implement products but converted to producing casings for hand grenades and other essential war items during World War II. Operations ceased in 2005 and now consists of multiple vacant lots. Soil samples collected from the site indicate arsenic, beryllium, cadmium, chromium, lead, mercury, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) such as benzo(a)pyrene exceed established Statewide Standards.
A soil excavation was completed in 2015 which removed the top 2-3' of contaminated soil from selected areas of the site and was then capped with clean soil. Two environmental covenants (ECs) have been established for the Northern and Southern portions of the site, which restrict residential land use and require notification of property transfer or change in land use.
