A former salvage yard and metal fabrication property located in Marion, Iowa. An initial assessment found multiple recognized environmental conditions with the potential to cause contamination, including multiple leaking underground storage tanks on the site and surrounding properties, historic uses of the site, historic uses of neighboring properties, and an abandoned adjacent railroad. Subsequent Phase II assessments confirmed the presence of metals, VOCs, SVOCs, and PCBs in soil and/or groundwater, and the potential for vapor intrusion was investigated and found to not be a concern at the time. Following the subsequent Phase II assessments, the southern portion of the site was capped with clean soil and was redeveloped into a street and right of way. Environmental covenants were placed on this portion of the property and the DNR does not require any additional action at this time.
