Summary
A former USDA Commodity Credit Union Site that was leased by the USDA for grain storage in the 1950s. At one point, the site contained 12 grain bins, and historic records show that fumigants using carbon tetrachloride were used as pesticides on the stored grain at the site during its use. The pesticides were applied to the top of the grain in the storage bins and allowed to flow through the grain, evaporating as it flowed. This practice led to potential contamination of soil and groundwater at the site by carbon tetrachloride. To investigate this potential contamination, the site was assessed and soil and groundwater samples were collected and analyzed for carbon tetrachloride and chloroform. Analytical results did not reveal evidence of a hazardous condition, and no additional assessment is required at the site at this time.
