A 2.78 acre site consisting of 5 parcels in Knoxville that was purchased by Kwik Trip, Inc. for the purpose of constructing a new Kwik Star gas station. Former uses of the properties include multiple commercial businesses including dry cleaners, gas stations, and auto facilities as well as residential buildings and a portion of the former middle school. RECs include the past uses of the site and neighboring properties as gas station and other uses that present a potential for contamination. Seven borings were advanced at the site for the collection of soil and groundwater samples to investigate the RECs, and although some VOCs and TEH as gasoline were detected at the site, the detections were limited to a small portion of the site and none of the detected concentrations exceeded applicable regulatory levels. Due to the planned use of the site and lack of detections in excess of regulatory levels, no additional assessment is required at this time.
