An active rail yard owned by Canadian Pacific Kansas City and leased by Quest Liner. DNR was contacted to investigate an apparent acid spill at the property in the sulfuric acid loading area of the facility. Environmental assessment found that while low pH was detected, the area of impact was limited and did not present a significant risk outside of the immediate area. Following the assessment, DNR assigned the site a priority 3, indicating that although some hazards may exist in the soil, the current site use and measures already in place, such as an environmental covenant, suggest that those hazards are limited and further assessment is not required at this time. Following this decision, Quest Liner submitted a soil and groundwater management plan to replace some of the damaged railing and a soil and groundwater management closure report was submitted to DNR following completion of the rail replacement work.
