Summary
A 28-acre property in Sioux City, Iowa that is currently owned by L.G. Everist Inc and is used for storage of aggregate materials. A Phase I conducted for the city of Sioux City in anticipation of purchase of the property discovered multiple RECs, including a relict channel of the Floyd River that had been filled with unknown materials, USTs, waste oil drums, and ASTs. A subsequent Phase II was conducted to investigate soil and groundwater in the relict river channel, and although some metals and VOCs were detected, none of the detected analytes were detected at levels that pose a significant risk to human health and the environment. DNR assigned a priority level 2 to the site and requested additional investigation to determine any potential risk associated with the USTs, ASTs, and other RECs identified at the site, as the initial Phase II investigation focused only on the relict channel. Additional investigation is required and anticipated.
