Summary
On 3/24/2019 I (Brett Meyers, Field Office 1) took a spill call from Angela Jansen DNR Conservation Officer in Linn County. There was evidence of a fuel odor and sheen along the Cedar Valley Nature Trail in Hiawatha. The location of the spill was : Hawkeye Drive and Boyson Road. The spill originated from :
Hawkeye Ready Mix
1340 Hawkeye Drive
Hiawatha, Iowa 52233

The spill occurred from a leaking underground fuel line that originated from a 10,000 gallon AST used for diesel fuel. The original estimate from Hawkeye Ready Mix's fuel records indicates there was 3500 gallons of diesel fuel unaccounted for. The Fire Dept indicated to me during their initial interviews with Hawkeye Ready Mix, that there has been discrepancies of fuel loss before this spill. This location is within 1500' of one of Hiawatha's water wells.
The RP has contacted Acterra Group for the initial surface water clean up and they are working with EB Solutions to monitor the groundwater contamination.
