The Weissman Site has long history of use as scrap metal collection location, including auto batteries. It is within about 1 block of the downtown Cedar Falls business district. EPA conducted a Targeted Brownfields Assessment in 1999, revealing mainly lead contamination of soils, with lesser amounts of arsenic and antimony. The City of Cedar Falls would like this site to be developed. The location is between the downtown and the Cedar River. Within the last couple of years the Corps of Engineers has built a levee along th eriver in this area, thereby enhancing the develoment value of the property, it forms the eastern edge of the site. The owner would like to convey the property to the city so that it does not remain a burden to his heirs. After some discussion the owner elected to enroll the property in the LRP as the best way to accomplish his purposes.
