Summary

A lead acid battery and manufacturing site that has been in operation since approximately 1920. Past activities have resulted in the release of contaminants, primarily lead, into the surface soil and dust on the site. Site investigation activities commenced in 1989, and are currently ongoing. An EPA led cleanup effort was conducted in 1991 to excavate lead-contaminated shallow soil at the site, although lead concentrations exceeding the current Statewide Standard for lead in soil remains in shallow depths at the site. In 2011, EPA archived the site from the CERCLIS database. The site has been acquired by the city of Council Bluffs and enrolled into the State of Iowa's Land Recycling Program to clean up contamination on the site and restore the conditions so that they are protective of human health and the environment.
