The site is also known as "Parcel C". It is approximately 3.28 acres. It is owned by Karl & Co. Karl & Co. was the prior owner/operator's lender which received a deed in lieu of foreclosure when Central Steel entered into bankruptcy some years ago. Nine borings were drilled were drilled at the site. The borings wereadvanced with hand auger to 2 feet bgs within the side slopes of the low-lying areas of Put Area I. Three monitoring wells were installed in Put Area I and one monitoring well was in the south adjacent area to Put Area I. The borings were advanced to a total depth ranging from 18.5 feet to 20.5 feet bgs. Soil samples analysis found ethylbenzene at 124 ug/kg, xylenes 406 ug/kg, TEH-waste oil 563 ug/kg, 1,2-dichlorobenzene 1,070 ug/kg and lead at 110 mg/kg. Groundwater samples showed 1,1-dichloroethane 310 ug/L, 1,1-DCE 19 ug/L, 1,1,1-TCA 800 ug/L. All the contaminants in groundwater exceeded statewide standards.
