Summary

The former Construction Machinery Company site is an abandoned manufacturing facility south of downtown Waterloo, part of the Rath Neighborhood Area. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency gave a pilot grant to the City of Waterloo to evaluate properties within the Rath Neighborhood Area to determine their feasibility for redeveolpment. A Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) was completed in the fall of 2001 and a Phase II ESA was completed in March 2002. The overall site consists of two areas, Parcel 1 and Parcel 2. Parcel 1 is owned by Glenwood Properties and is not enrolled in the LRP. Parcel 2 was purchased from Glenwood Properties and in June 2003 was enrolled in the Land Recycling Program. Site investigations to define the nature and extent of the affected areas (areas with contaminates of concern above statewide standards) are continuing.
