Fishing Summary

Sampling in 2017 at 2 sites indicated excellent natural reproduction of Brown Trout with fish ranging in size from young of year up to 18 inches and about 1,273 fish per mile. A few catchable Rainbow Trout emigrating from stocked areas on North and South Bear were also sampled. This section is not stocked with fingerling Brown Trout nor catchable Rainbow Trout and statewide trout regulations are in effect. - Last updated on 02/04/2021.

In nearly all cases, Iowa fish are safe to eat. Cleaning and/or preparing the meal causes most of the problems regarding taste or color of fish. Like all living creatures, fish are susceptible to diseases, parasites, and other naturally occurring conditions in the water. If you suspect your fish is affected by any of these conditions, do not eat it. Consider eating smaller and younger fish which usually have lower levels of contaminants than larger ones.
