| Mississippi River Pools 16-19: Tailwater stages have risen some the past few days. Boat ramps and the main channel are frozen back up with the recent cold weather. | Tailwater stage at Lock and Dam 17 at New Boston is 4.25 feet and has risen close to a foot since last week. We have not received any reports on ramp conditions at Toolsboro at this time. We have not received any ice condition reports for this pool. |

In nearly all cases, Iowa fish are safe to eat. Cleaning and/or preparing the meal causes most of the problems regarding taste or color of fish. Like all living creatures, fish are susceptible to diseases, parasites, and other naturally occurring conditions in the water. If you suspect your fish is affected by any of these conditions, do not eat it. Consider eating smaller and younger fish which usually have lower levels of contaminants than larger ones.
