Ice fishing conditions are generally good in traditional areas but care must always be taken. Even in some traditional areas thin ice or even open water has been reported. If you have angling questions, please call Bellevue Fisheries Management at 563-880-8781. |
Water level at Fulton is stable and presently near 4.6 feet, 9.5 feet at Camanche and 4.4 feet at LeClaire. Water is clear with the temperature around 33 degrees. |
Walleye - No Report: All the boat ramps in Clinton were iced in at the time of this report. |
Bluegill - Good: Ice fishing is occurring at Rock Creek and in Cattail Slough. Sorting of bluegills is occurring but some nice fish are being caught. |
Northern Pike - No Report: Lots of pike being caught in the pools above Pool 14 but would not be surprising that they could not be targeted here as well. Pool 14 has a very good pike population. |
The fishery of Pool 14 remains strong. Pool 14 is one of the few pools where walleye are stocked regularly to offset any loses due to the Quad Cities Nuclear Power plant. Stockings are somewhat successful and contribute 20 percent of the population on a given year. Largemouth and smallmouth bass have also been excellent fisheries in the past few years. Planning is ongoing to restore the fishery in Beaver Island complex across from Clinton, Iowa. The dredging of the complex will start in 2017.(2016)
In nearly all cases, Iowa fish are safe to eat. Cleaning and/or preparing the meal causes most of the problems regarding taste or color of fish. Like all living creatures, fish are susceptible to diseases, parasites, and other naturally occurring conditions in the water. If you suspect your fish is affected by any of these conditions, do not eat it. Consider eating smaller and younger fish which usually have lower levels of contaminants than larger ones. Most contaminants accumulate in larger, older fish. For additional information, check out our resources for eating and cooking Iowa caught fish.
