Description: Public wells used to determine Source Water Protection capture zone areas. The data are derived from the Iowa Geological and Water Survey Geologic Sample database and supplemented with derived aquifer properties and attributes required for preparing simple groundwater flow models. *This layer is a copy with reduced attribute fields and simplified symbology.
For further information the metadata for this layer can be viewed at: ftp://ftp.igsb.uiowa.edu/gis_library/ia_state/hydrologic/ground_waters/source_water/sourcewater_wells.html.

Description: Simplified aggregation of potential contaminant sources used for Source Water Assessment and Protection. The data is derived from IDNR, IDALS, and US EPA program databases. Land use risks are assigned to each category of contaminant source to reflect the probable toxicity and mobility of chemicals stored or used on the site in groundwater. For further information, the metadata may be accessed at: ftp://ftp.igsb.uiowa.edu/gis_library/ia_state/hydrologic/ground_waters/source_water/sourcewater_cont_srcs.html
Description: Derived from All_wells, a simplified aggregation of all known water wells. In this instance identifying attributes for Source Water capture zones have been joined to the all_wells data. For further information, access the metadata for All_wells at ftp://ftp.igsb.uiowa.edu/gis_library/ia_state/hydrologic/ground_waters/all_wells_public.html
Description: Groundwater capture zones are area projected to the land surface determined to provide water to the wells. Capture zones are determined for each groundwater-based public water supply system using available geologic and hydrogeologic information. Limiting criteria for capture zones include time-of-travel distance and topographically derived areas. Arbitrary fixed radii are used for karst-impacted systems and for systems with inadequate well and geologic data. Susceptibility to contamination from surface sources is determined based on the thickness of confining material above the aquifer.
