12/13/2019 Bacehowski, Dan Wed, Dec 11, 3:13 PM (20 hours ago) to me, Glenn, Brian Good Afternoon Nina, I’m following up on the voicemail I’ve left you this morning regarding the newly constructed CCR monofill cells (Cells 2 & 3) at MidAmerican’s Louisa Generating Station. As mentioned in the voicemail, we’re hoping to have visit by the IDNR central office or field office yet this week or sometime next week (12/16-20) as we’re substantially finished with the two cells and would like to gain approval for waste placement as quickly as possible following submittal of the CQA report. MidAmerican mentioned that your team conducted a preliminary site visit at Walter Scott recently that allowed for abbreviated approval for use of the monofill. MidAmerican’s concern about a delayed approval is, 1) the risk of the stockpiled CCR freezing and being challenging to place as the temperatures drop; and, 2) excessive leachate generation and subsequent management if there is significant precip (snow or rain) that need to managed if the initial lift in the cell can’t be placed quickly or compacted appropriately.
