1/13/2026 Straw waddles were in place around some of the storm intakes at the time of the incident. The facility constructed containment berms around the intakes to prevent additional slurry from entering the intakes. The straw waddles that were in place at the time did allow product to flow into the intakes and discharge into the cooling waters pond that is connected to Calmus Creek. The cooling waters pond near Outfall #6 was turbid and the water pooled behind a check damn at Outfall #5 had particulate floating on top. Water flowing into Calmus creek near Outfall #5 and at the overflow weir appeared clear. The pH level at several locations downstream and at each outfall ranged from 7.84 - 8.40.
