"At 630 PM, Chance Goddard with Essentia Protein Solutions at 1347 Hwy 44 in Harlan called to report a line in the broth plant plugged. This caused the material being cooked (beef bones) to back up and go through the stack spilling over into a drain. It ended up settling in a depression area in the grass. The flow path is about 3 feet wide x 50 feet long. Additional material ended up on the gravel on the SE side of the plant. All of it is on Essentia property with no waterways affected. He requested a spill number, which is 082625-AW-1830. I told him he would receive a follow up call today. His number is 712-304-7553.   "

I called Chance on 8/27 at 8:30 AM to follow up. The broth flowed from the vent onto the roof of the production building. From there it spilled onto a field essentia owns, as well as a gravel parking lot. Performance Grading was hired and came to the site to remove top soil and gravel. All solid waste has been collected in a side dump and will be taken to a landfill. Chance believe approximately 1000 gallons of broth was spilled. Chance was provided a 30-day report and will supply a solid waste quantity when known.

I walked two areas where spilled broth product had reached, and verified that in those two spots, product did not reach a water of the state.
