4/3/2023	On 4/3/23 I visited this site and met with owner Andrew Vandehaar to document dead animal burial that he and DNR ES Carrie Davis had agreed upon. Andrew's confinement barns at this site had been destroyed by a tornado the previous Friday 3/31/23. Approximately 275 30 lb pigs were killed by the tornado. When I arrived Andrew had dug a hole to the west of the building site where Carrie had indicated using the AFO burial atlas. Andrew had also piled the pigs in the hole and was ready to cover them. While the Foreign Animal Disease disposal manual recommends a trench type hole with the animals more layered and spread out, due to the severity of the disaster and Andrew having located the hole correctly at 6 feet deep with 30 plus inches of cover space I did not require any further action but told Andrew that he could cover the dead animals and move on with the remainder of the clean up.
