7/20/2010	On July 8 2008 I visited the feedlots located in Section 34 T74N R39W Pottawattamie County. The purpose of the visit was to observe manure control facilities to ensure compliance with applicable open feedlot regulations.I met with met with Mr. Keast and discussed his efforts to limit manure run-off. Slight changes have been made since the initial assessment which included the installation of an intake to allow second stage settling for the north lot without stocking effluent.Mr. Keast also explained that he has installed a horizontal outlet in the south lot structure replacing tube intakes which were continually plugging. He was encouraged to be vigilant with regard to making improvements/ minor adjustments to ensure solids settling and limit retention of effluent longer then necessary to settle solids.
