6/6/2013 Stopped at facility to inspect basin and runoff controls after heavy rains. I met with Doug and Grant Kooima. They reported that they had a 7 inch rain and the SOFEB went up 8 feet in one night. They were not pumping on the day I inspected, but they had pumped from the basin to the north through some grass and into some large hay bales. Once the effluent left this area it flowed down a small hill to the north and into the creek. They pumped from 12noon to 7 p.m. on 5/28/13 and will not pump anymore unless large rains come. Extended Ag was at their facility and took a sample of the effluent being discharged. The basin is now down 2 to 3 feet and photos were taken. They were advised to get a traveling gun or irrigation system unit and put the effluent on their rye ground. They stated that they will do that in the near future. They did call in the discharge as required by their NPDES permit. The creek next to and north of their facility totally washed out and went way over it's banks during the rain event/flooding. Now it is down into its banks and running clear and only a few inches deep. CINDY MARTENS
