4/19/2021 4/15/21 - Mike Ward, landfill manager, emailed me about a landfill fire that occurred overnight. They worked on it for several hours and were finally able to extinguish it by covering it with soil. He said he thought a chemical reaction of TPI fiberglass chemicals may have caused the fire. 4/16/21 - I met with Mike Ward on-site. He said they were working with TPI to resolve the matter. He showed me a couple plastic containers that had melted by TPI chemical reactions. I instructed him to contact Susan Johnson (DNR) about obtaining an SWA and having a waste management plan for this waste. We looked at the fire site at the upper west end of the working are. I saw no signs of fire. The tarp machine was destroyed along with two tarps. They were using soil for cover until a new machine and tarps can be obtained. BILL GROSS
