9/9/2021 I completed a follow up visit to assess the fire situation. Wind was from the NNW at ~20 mph (1:30 pm). Only a couple spots were smoldering. No flames observed. No leachate being applied. All leachate was contained behind the dams built. More mulch had been spread out on the SW side of the pile. The leachate collected in the temporary dams will be recirculated eventually and the dams removed once all the hot spots are out for certain and facility is ready to cover the pile with soil. Richard Swan indicated he watched the pile over the weekend and was on site Monday 9/6 to put out a few sections of mulch that were smoking. When I asked about the trees that were bulldozed south of the mulch pile, he indicated that was done so that back dirt could be utilized to cover the mulch pile in the near future. He has possibly located a screener unit to obtain, but has not been given any approval from Gary Chamness. Richard said he has not talked to Gary in over a week. He said leachate land application will move to the central lagoon in the near future. Richard said that additional leachate application equipment is being worked on/repaired. Per my observations, freeboard in the central lagoon was less than 6" at its lowest point (SW corner). Palestine Creek was normal (no leachate detected) at the 160th Street crossing to the east. No flow detected at the Missouri crossing, south of the mulch pile. BRIAN LEE
