1/10/2025 After discussion with Rachel Rinner from Knee Deep Solutions, claiming no-till in the p-index will be allowed. She provided documentation from the NRCS that shows no-till can be claimed if the manure injection and anhydrous application occurs in a certain way with the correct tools. In this case it actually raises the p-index by claiming no-till also. Jeremy Klatt explained: The training that has been provided by ISU/NRCS to DNR staff and the public over the years has been to consider manure injection/incorporation to be 'tillage' for the P index enrichment factor but it is fine if she uses 'No Till' in lieu of 'Tillage'. The reason that this is acceptable, is because, though it is counterintuitive, selecting 'No Till' in lieu of 'Tillage' in the P index actually increases the overall P index score. This is because the enrichment factor is accounting for the stratification of P in the very surface of the soil when there is no tillage. The benefit of no till in terms of the P index is in the RUSLE2 score, which will be low in a no till situation. KAITLYNNE HENRIKSEN
12/23/2024 If manure analysis is used in future MMPs, manure samples need to be less than 4 years old and proven gallons used with it. Claiming no-till in the p-index when there is manure injection and anhydrous application occurring in the fields. KAITLYNNE HENRIKSEN
