6/21/2017	I attended the grand opening of the North Central Iowa Regional Solid Waste Agency Household Hazardous Materials (HHM) facility as an invited guest on 20JUN17. The facility is fully operational and accepts HHM from Webster and Humboldt Counties. With the following exceptions, there is no fee for HHM disposal, although appointments are required. Fee items – CRTs, fire extinguishers, and also for latex paint because the homeowner can just mix in some absorbent (cat litter, sawdust, etc.), leave the lid off and throw it in the trash when evaporated. This facility has a "swap shop" where, if a material is still useable, citizens can come and take it at no charge on a first come, first serve basis. Of our 15 county FO2 area, most residents now have free HHM disposal, except for the unincorporated areas of Worth, Hancock and Winnebago counties. These exceptions can still dispose of the waste at the closest HHM, but there is a fee. There is also a fee for HHM disposal generated by businesses.	DAVID MILLER
