7/8/2019	Mike Smith (DNR Land Quality Bureau) and I met with Jerry Hentges and a colleague (Terracon), Steve Thomas, and Alan DeBruin (Mahaska Co. SLF) at the landfill to discuss permit renewal and closure issues. We also examined the north filled area. I took photos (attached) of significant and persistent leachate seepage on the north and west slopes. The plan is to capture or seal the seepage as final cover is applied this summer. Additional gas vents may also be installed in the filled area. We also discussed proper fencing around the existing and new leachate ponds. Mike will work with landfill and Terracon staff so a renewed permit can be issued.	BILL GROSS
