9/28/2022	Mike Smith (DNR LQB) and I met with Joe Farris (SLF manager) and briefly looked at the closed Mahaska Co. landfill sites. Meinders Site: This site is directly south of the active sanitary landfill. There is now a roadway connecting the two. The vegetation was somewhat sparse likely due to soil infertility and drought. There was a windrow of compost that was going to be spread out for seeding this fall. (see photo) Original Site: The entrant to this site east of Highway 63 is now from the west off Highway 63. The east entrance off Merino Avenue has been eliminated. We drove around the site and found generally good vegetative cover, though there were a few sparse areas due to soil fertility problems. We saw some monitoring wells and they appeared to be in good condition. (see photos)	BILL GROSS
