9/18/2026 I received lab reports, (attached) which show highly contaminated water. See the attached NOV letter. BILL GROSS
9/1/2026 9/1/2026 - Consultant Doug Luzbetak called and reported the stormwater basin was empty and no longer discharging. Water had been pumped into the leachate lagoon and is being hauled out. The trickle from the landfill is being captured in a sump in the flow path before reaching the stormwater basin, and pumped into the leachate lagoon. BILL GROSS
8/27/2026 I found black odorous water discharging from the stormwater basin and entering Honey Creek to the south. I collected samples for lab analysis from both locations. I met with John Roosa and Todd Fisher. The liquid was trickling out of the active area and entering the basin. The leachate lagoon was nearly full. They were hauling leachate to wastewater plants in Boone, Ames, and Des Moines. I directed them to stop the discharge from the stormwater basin as soon as possible. I told them to treat it like leachate by recirculating or hauling it to a WWTP. I asked them to keep me informed of progress. Contractors were working on a new cell though which this water flows. They were also working on installing a force main to the city of Boone. BILL GROSS
