2/27/2013 On September 18, 2012, I made a follow up visit to a transformer oil spill at the intersection fo 15th Avenue SW and C Street in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This is in the vicinity of the area known as the Czech Village. (Spill # 091612-dah-2042). The site appeared to have been adequately cleaned up. Oil dry had been used to clean up the streat. Storm sewer grates had been removed to allow for a storm water catchbasin to be pumped clean. I reconned the Cedar River which was located about two blocks to the east of the spill location. There is a huge storm water outlet pipe located on the west bank of the river between the 16th Street and 12th Street bridges. There was no obvious sheen on the water coming out of the storm sewer, the water collected off the end of the storm sewer pipe, or in the Cedar River anywhere near this location. There was no discolored water observed either. The Cedar River was very low on this date due to this summer's ongoing drought. I observed a lot of plastic and paper trash littering the exposed river bank both above and below this storm sewer outlet. Overall, it appeared that the spill had been adequately cleaned up and that no environmental impacts had occurred. No further actions deemed necessary. DOUG HAWKER
