7/24/2009	Jim Stricker initially visited with Mr. Corrigan and required that the water works officials initiate measures immediately to prevent any additional chlorite solution from reaching the river. In addition, Mr. Stricker suggested that the city treat the residual product in the effected lines with a sodium thiosulfate solution to neutralize the chlorine. The rinsate was to be captured and properly disposed. At approximately 0900, I contacted Mr. Ted Corrigan and visited with him further concerning the incident. Mr. Corrigan stated that Mr. Strickers directions were being implemented as we spoke. Mr. Corrigan was informed that Des Moines Water Works would need to compile a written report in response to the incident. It was requested that the report be compiled and submitted within 30-days. A copy of the pertinent rule was faxed to Mr. Corrigan, to inform him of the required information to be included in his report. I also requested that he include what measures Des Moines Water Works intends to implement to ensure that such an event does not happen in the future.	DNRHSIADMIN
