12/11/2023 I visited again on 12/11 as summarized in the following: Tammy, Today I visited and observed the fields in the NMP known as Doerring Werger, Fred Berns North, North Harness, Smith, Radloff South A, Radloff South B, Radloff South C, and Radloff NE. I found no indication of over-application of manure, over-saturation of soils, manure pooling residue, or any sign that manure had run off the fields during or after land application activities. This is the second time I observed the Radloff fields because I did so on 11/29 also. In your original complaint you provided a photo of liquid in a field and provided no location information but alleged the liquid was manure. During the complaint investigation I discovered that the photo you provided was taken in a field that is not included in Supreme Beef's NMP and did not receive manure application from Supreme Beef. Along with that photo you provided the following comments: On November 19th it was observed by photograph of manure that had been land applied in a quantity far greater than the soil could handle. This was evident by the standing manure and what appears to be a steam of shit. I visited the location where the above referenced photo was taken, observed and field-tested the liquid, and determined it was water with no indication of manure contamination. I was told at that time by the farmer that this field is adjacent to a natural spring and the field has water in it most of the time; I confirmed this by viewing historical aerial photos. The second photo you provided with the original complaint was a picture of two manure tankers staged in a field during manure application activities and this has not been disputed. We do not intend to take further action on complaint #32917 or your refiling of the complaint at this time. BRIAN JERGENSON
11/30/2023 Note that the second picture with the manure tankers staged in the field is 4 miles from the water in the field picture if Larry Stone's location information on that picture is correct. BRIAN JERGENSON
11/30/2023 I visited the location of the complainant's picture with the water running through the field for which the complainant provided no location information. This field is not in Supreme Beef's manure plan nor adjacent to fields in the plan. I field tested the water for ammonia nitrogen and found no indication of chemical impact to the water. I also spoke with both the gentleman who farm the field/Don and Randy Wagner. They stated they had applied and incorporated liquid dairy manure in the field weeks ago. They also stated that there is a natural spring in or near the field that causes standing water year-round. I later confirmed this through aerial photo review of the field that shows water regularly in this portion of the field. Finally, I asked if Supreme Beef had applied manure in this field or in adjacent fields, or ran their drag-line through this field and/or culvert and they said Supreme Beef had not done so. I took pictures of the field/water and test kit showing no indication of ammonia nitrogen when I was onsite; the picture is attached. Finally, I observed a field in the plan located NW of Farmersburg and saw no indication of over-application or manure ponding. I determined that no further action was necessary regarding this complaint. BRIAN JERGENSON
