8/30/2018 I investigated this complaint on 30AUG18; I went to this location and spoke with owner Matt Thayer. He stated that he doesn't have a car crusher and we walked around his mostly-paved scrap storage area; I saw nothing of concern such as large stained areas. He indicated that he buys junk cars and removes the gas tanks which sometimes still have small amounts of gas. I asked if he had ever had any spills and he indicated that a few months ago he pulled off a tank and spilled a small amount, but he put absorbent on it and put it in the dumpster. I could not find any evidence to support the assertions in the complaint, so I judged this to be no further action. As an aside, Mr. Thayer bought this business in 2104 but had Jay and Kim Claude run it as contract operators. They moved on in April and now Mr. Thayer is running the operation. I checked the storm water permit and the appliance demanufacturing permit and they are both under the firm name of MT Shearing, but the contact on both is is Kim Claude. I indicated that when he renews those permits he should note the contact name change. I also advised him to review the SWPPP and make sure he signed that as the current operator. DAVID MILLER
