1/22/2014 On Wednesday, January 22, 2014 I E-mailed a copy of the complaint to Neal Vaughn and Randy Watts with the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship and to J.D. Griffeth the Poweshiek County Sanitarian. BILL GIBBONS
1/21/2014 On Tuesday, January 21, 2014 I called Laurie Hrugge. I told her the manure in Section 9 had not yet been land applied, the stockpile in Section 16 was ag-lime, and the manure in Section 20 had been land-applied last week. Laurie wanted to know if there was a time limit to land-apply the manure. I told her the manure fell under department of agriculture rules and there was no time limit for land applying after creating the stock pile. I told her unless the stock piles were causing an environmental problem the Iowa DNR had no authority to make them land apply the manure in any type of time frame. I recommended she call the department of agriculture. BILL GIBBONS
1/21/2014 On Tuesday, January 20, 2014 I talked to Travis Slusher following up on whether the manure stockpiles were land applied in Section 9. Travis said their manure applicator had not applied the manure and there had been two snow events since we talked last Thursday. The manure would likely not be applied until another time comes when the snow is melted off of the field and the ground is solid. BILL GIBBONS
1/21/2014 On Thursday, January 16, 2014 I received a call from Travis Slusher. There were two stock piles in Section 9 that would be applied as soon as there was sufficient ground without snow cover. The stock piles were much more than 200' from the water way. They anticipated being able to land apply in the next couple of days. At Section 16 what people were seeing was a pile of ag-lime not poultry manure. At Section 20 the manure had already been land applied. BILL GIBBONS
1/21/2014 On Wednesday, January 15, 2014 I contacted Travis Slusher with Fremont Farms / Poweshiek County Pullets about the stockpiles. Travis said he would be going out and would look at these locations to see if there were stock piles there and contact the manure applicator to find out when the manure would be land applied. I also expressed concern about the stock pile in Section 9 that it might be close to a waterway. BILL GIBBONS
