5/13/2010	I called Jim Utter (WW Supt. 515-249-3482). He said they have been pumping out sewers at the 100 blocks of 9th St. SE and 11th St. SE since about 2 AM because of backups in basements due to heavy rainfall and a blockage in the sewer line behind HyVee. He said they did not have a long enough hose to bring the wastewater past the blockage. He sid they should be about finished. The water goes to a pond behind HyVee and eventually to Fourmile Creek. He said it is very dilute. I asked him to calculate how much is pumped and grab a sample and test it for CBOD, TSS, and pH. I reminded him that he should have informed us of this activity. I told him to send us a written report. He said that a hole was drilled through the sewer below the dock on the Hy Vee pond. It was plugged with concrete, which also obstructs high flows. He said this will be repaired in the near future. I contacted the complainant to inform him of my findings.	BILL GROSS
