10/19/2011	I met with several members of the Metro Waste Authority staff and observed the solidification process for liquid waste (industrial wastewater) brought in by tanker truck to the landfill. Permit Amendment #4 requires that DNR field office staff observe at least one demonstration. On the lined and filled cell nearest the scale (south of the composting area) a trench 8-10 ft. deep hd been dug and lined with flyash. Wastewater (about 3300 gal.) was dumped into the trench and ash was then mixed in with it with a backhoe. When no liquid could be seen, a paint filter test was performed. It passed. The solidified material was going to then be landfilled. I saw no major problems with this process. Since the trench was atop a leachate collection system, any seepage would be captured by it.
