3/11/2020 I met with Abe Hurst and his son Loren at the proposed site of the new cattle building located in the Northeast 1/4, Section 15, Jenkins Twp, Mitchell County to discuss separation distances and options for the building. Loren showed me where the required 1,000 foot separation distance was from the Wapsi River that he had marked in the fence line. Abe explained that if they move the building that far east it would be in an area in the northeast corner of the field that is prone to flooding. I explained that according to the IDNR AFO siting atlas the area is in both alluvial soils and alluvial aquifer. I provided them with maps showing the separation distances and the boundaries of the alluvial areas. I also provide them with the rules that explained what would be required as far as the flood plain determination, core borings and separation distances if they were to try and build a confinement building on the site. After our discussion Abe and Loren indicated that the will likely opt to build a partially roofed open lot at the site. I agreed that may be the best option. They will keep this office informed as they make further decisions. DAN BRATRUD
