4/5/2022 4/5/2022: email I sent to Adam Broughton and Mike Sullivan (DNR): The day after the Madison County tornado last month, the county(?) directed people to bring their disaster debris to the landfill. The landfill manager (Marcia Beeler) kept track of the volume of the disaster debris, but now is having difficulty getting reimbursed for the disposal costs. Is there any funding available for this (HSEMD, FEMA, etc.)? Another financial issue at the landfill...All the structures were destroyed. They were insured for about a half million dollars. The cost to replace the structures is about one million dollars. Is there any funding assistance available for this situation? If you don't have answers, maybe you can pass this along to someone who does. BILL GROSS
4/5/2022 4/4/2022: I visited the landfill as a follow-up to the tornado that demolished all structures at the site a month earlier. They were operating out of a portable trailer. A larger mobile home had been brought in and was being set up as a longer term temporary scalehouse/office. A temporary scale was being used, but was out of commission at the time. Marcia Beeler said this has happened often. They were estimating weights until it is operational again. The old scale that was damaged will be brought back into operation in the near future when a ramp is rebuilt and replaced. The remnants of the citizen convenience center were cleaned up. All waste was being hauled directly to the working face. Equipment at the working face was operable and cover material was in place nearby and being applied adequately. Surface conditions were muddy. Winter litter was on-site; it will need to be cleaned up when surface conditions dry out. I observed an ephemeral leachate seep along the access road in Cell 3 south of the working face. See the attached photos. BILL GROSS
