11/16/2005	On November 16 2005 I visited the above feedlot to check separation distances for the proposed structures designed by Agricultural Engineering Associates in association with the distances noted in Table 6 of Chapter 65 IAC. The proposed structures are for two vegetative treatment area (VTA) systems. The separation distances for a VTA system are 200 feet from a shallow well and 100 feet from a deep well.There are three wells at this feedlot that are not noted on the engineered drawings. Additionally there are no variance requests for the wells. Two of the wells appear to be either right along or within 50 feet of the proposed diversion berm along the east side of the feedlot. One of the wells appears to be approximately 250 feet from settling basin labeled C. The other well (located directly to the south of the above noted well) appears to be approximately 110 feet from the settling basin labeled C. (It should be noted that these distances are estimates due to the engineered plans not listing the wells in relation to the proposed structures.) Another well is located more than 500 feet from all proposed structures and is also upgradient from the feedlot. Attached is an aerial photo. All distances were measured using a Laser Rangefinder.
