7/3/2014 All manure is being sold - the confinement manure is under 200A and Kelly indicated that they now have a distributor's license. They are selling the open lot manure also, but keep track of it all under the NMP. There was a little spillage from the loading area on the south side of the office. This area would flow southeast into the road ditch. Some feed was also piled on the driveway west of the office and the southern portion of this could also flow south to the ditch. There was no runoff at the time, but Kelly will look at the possibility of putting in another intake for the loading area or just do better witht he maintenance of this area. The feed will also be moved farther north into the containment area as soon as they are finished with some work on the silos. There is a small equipment cleaning area that drains to an outdoor pit and then to the SOFEB. Kelly indicated that they may put in a truck wash south of the office and that all wastewater would also go to the SOFEB. Paul requested an updated "as-built" drawing once the current project is finished. SHEILA KENNY
7/3/2014 Paul Petitti and I visited the site to check on the status of the construction. Photos were taken. The new feedlot manager is Chad "Rocky" Robertson, but Jeremy Jansen is still involved in other aspects of the operation. Also spoke with Kelly Hulstein, who indicated that the site would not exceed the total permitted capacity of 14,000. He said they would likely normally only have 9,000-10,000 and a max of about 11,000. The north barn will be the only confinement animals remaining and the capacity of that barn is about 2500 head. They are in the process of pouring concrete lots and constructing additional solid settling to convert the south confinement barn to open lot. The clean water intakes for the roof water off the confinement barns have been rerouted in to the SOFEB as well. There were several hoses into the SOFEB from the ethanol plant and a new pump structure and inlet pipe has been installed from SELC's STW basin to the SOFEB. 2 inlets on northeast portion of the SOFEB appear to be routed to the STW basin, but as they may contain some process WW (feed storage runoff), these should be routed directly to the SOFEB. Kelly stated that they receive all the stormwater from SELC and occasionally take additional RO reject water for irrigation during dry periods. He was not entirely sure what the hoses were for or the exact route of flow from SELC to the SOFEB. The small earthen berm routes runoff from the stockpiling area to a concrete trough and into the feedlot. It will then flow west through the lot, through the existing SSS and into the SOFEB. The stockpiling area is larger than indicated on the drawing initially submitted by Nic Rowe. Kelly indicated that when the construction of the new open lot is completed, they will be installing a second berm near the road ditch, which will route runoff from this southern area west through the new open lot.
