3/10/2006	On March 10 2006 I visited the above feedlot to check separation distances for the proposed structures designed by Curry-Wille and Associates in association with the distances noted in Table 6 of Chapter 65 IAC. The proposal is for an alternative technology site with a single large solids settling basin and 12 separate parallel vegetated treatment areas (VTA). The separation distances for a VTA system are 200 feet from a shallow well and 100 feet from a deep well. The separation distance for a sediment basin is 400 feet to a well. The separation distances for an open feedlot are 200 feet from a shallow well and 100 feet from a deep well.The plans do not appear to list any wells nor are there well variances included in the plan. I spoke with Wilbur Hoye who stated that the closest well is located more than 1000 feet to the southwest of the feedlot (labeled #1 on the attached aerial map). I did not observe any wells in the vicinity of the feedlot facility or the proposed structures. Separation distances appear to have been met.It should be noted that the proposed VTA boundary is more than 1250 feet away from another feedlot owned and managed by JDH Inc (see attached map). Additionally the proposed VTA’s are approximately 815 feet from the West Nodaway River (to the south) and more than 1000 feet away from an unnamed tributary of the West Nodaway River (to the west). Additionally the aerial photo shows a stream/creek running through the proposed structures. However during the site survey I verified that this area does not have definite banks and would not constitute a water of the state. The cut in the bank or the area where channeling begins is denoted on the enclosed map. A perforated drainage tile is proposed very close to the 12 VTA’s. All distances were measured using a Laser Rangefinder and GPS handheld unit.	AfoLOADInsp-2-07/20/2010
