12/11/2019 As part of my "2019 fall tour" of MSW landfills, I stopped at the Landfill on 12/5/19 to observe the status of the landfill primarily the area of the working face and I wanted to see the waste grinder. I spoke with Wade Hamm while I was onsite. We drove down to the bottom side of the working face area to get the best view. Wade explained how they got a permit amendment to increase the grade (to make it steeper), which gives them a couple more years of landfilling in that area. The working face appeared to be in good condition and Wade said thanks to the grinder, they're getting better compaction than prior to the grinder. Windblown litter did not appear to be an issue. I did not observe any trees growing through the cover. Although the grinder was down during this visit, I got to see it and Wade explained the good and bad about it (it's expensive to own and operate, but extends the life of the cells). Interior roads were in excellent condition for providing access for the semis to the working face. Overall, I didn't see too much that concerned me. KURT LEVETZOW
