5/31/2017 On 5/16/2017 I visited the closed landfill. This landfill was closed on 1/28/1994. During my visit I noted that there were areas of sparse vegetation about 120 foot long x 5 feet wide extending in a line North of the methane venting unit. The sparse vegetation is on the landfill property and does not pose a erosion issue. This was discussed with Mike Sager (XFR Employee). Mike stated that they had reduced the length of time the vent had run. The will increase the timer and watch for improvement. Two methane seeps exist about 400 yards north/north west of the storage building (near the old borrow area). Mark Beck will continue to monitor these seeps and take action if needed.A small amount of leachate was observed on the south toe of the landfill. Rock has been placed in this area and at this time leachate is not entering a nearby drain tile.Vegetation has been harvested off the landfill in past years. I observed some areas where round bales had been stored and killed the vegetation on the landfill. This was discussed. In the future the bales will be quickly removed from the actual landfill area and stored elsewhere to avoid any damage to the vegetation.Over-all this landfill appears to be in compliance and is being actively maintained.
