8/2/2018	Dave Knight, maintenance employee at the hospital, had questions regarding straightening of a stream on the hospital's property. The hospital had received a letter from the drainage district explaining the district would like to remove the trees and straighten the channel. Dave requested I view the site while I was at the hospital for a storm water inspection. I viewed the channel and it was currently a meandering stream with several trees in the riparian. Based on the maturity of the trees, it appeared to have been in this natural state for many years. I discussed the situation with DNR Floodplain staff who explained the drainage district can perform this type of work without a permit only if it matches the original design and grade when the district was set up. The project would otherwise require approval from the COE and the DNR through the joint application permit. I provided this information to Dave and recommended the hospital supervisors make a formal inquiry to the DNR about the project if it appears to be proceeding.	DAVID KNOLL
