8/7/2015 All areas of the feedlot, including feed stock storage areas, flow through solids settling basins (SSBs). However, the SSB for the west half of the lots appears to be under-sized and the SSBs for the east pens are in the pens where that cattle have access to them. Cattle walking the SSBs tend to re-suspend the solids, allowing them to flow through rather than settle out. There is no designed post-settling treatment of the effluent and clean water is not diverted around the feedlot pens. Following the last inspection, several recommendations were made, including diverting clean water, modifying the SSBs so cattle are excluded and they do not retain pooled water for more than 72 hours, and adding a designed treatment area for settled feedlot effluent. An on-site inspection will be conducted to assess actions since the last inspection. All areas of the feedlot, including feed stock storage areas, flow through solids settling basins (SSBs).
