4/22/2026 I have investigated the complaint against HyCast Foundry. I met with Joe Shipley, Plant Manager of HyCast. We discussed the nature of the complaint. I asked to see the operations of the facility. The facility is operating only a couple days a week regarding the actual melting of iron metal. The molten iron is poured into sand forms and allowed to cool. The odors from the operation seem to come from the binder and the sand. The melting process uses natural gas to melt iron material, which is a combination of ingots and iron metal pieces. The metaling process has bag filters that help to reduce the dust and any fine particulate matter prior to emitting the clean air through stacks. The amount of metal pour during the week has been less than 20 tons of iron material. This is significantly lower than when the facility was owned by Faircast, Revstone or Dexter. Several of the processes are indoor emitting sources so they don't emit to the atmosphere. I could smell a slight odor from the foundry while inside and even a much lesser amount outside the facility. I asked several of the neighboring property owners and all of them seemed to say that don't smell much coming from the foundry. That doesn't mean that odors are not present, but it does seem that odors are not consistent as the winds blows in varying directions day to day. I would encorage you to record, the dates, the times and wind directions and other details regarding the odors that you are noticing. This type of information can help us and you to see the odors and the directions that seems to make them worse. The health impacts that you (and your kids) are describing could be related to the foundry, but could be other environmental factors such as allergies, dust or other wind-blown material. Your data collection can certainly help me and others to hone in on the primary source(s) of your health impacts. I would also encourage visiting with your local medical provider to help review your health impacts. I appreciate your information and any data you collect to better understand the area.
