9/20/2023 I met onsite with Jared Walz and we observed the SB storage basin and black hose. The basin showed no evidence of being pumped down and had approximately 8' of freeboard. Walz stated that the black hose connects to the pump in the basin that is activated to flush the barns and pointed out that his contractor had installed a solid pipe to replace a portion of the hose. He stated for this reason he disconnected the hose and drug it in the grass toward the W6 barn to get it out of the way, which I observed. The hose was not long enough to reach the W6 barn and I noted that no manure had leaked into the grass from the hose. I asked if manure had been pumped from the storage basin to the W6 pit and Walz stated this had not occurred. I observed W6's pit which contained 2-3' of manure in the 14' pit. Walz said the manure was too thick to finish pumping and that the manure applicator was scheduled to return to finish pumping after water is added to W6's pit. I observed no evidence that a hose or pipe had extended to the HWY 18 ditch/culverts or to the W6 pit. I also observed that the fields across HWY 18 still had standing corn. I observed no violations and required no further action as a result of my investigation. BRIAN JERGENSON
